Six-Word Stories

Can these be responses to a prompt at dVerse Poets Pub on open link night for poetry? They're only six words each but they each tell a story.

Nurse
first, poet,
writer after retirement.

Fast
car, blind
curve took all.

66
years but
loves sexy undies.

His
sneer tells
all, leave now.

Left
behind, her
too little self.

Decades
married, she
loves him newly.

Dogs,
they're all
he relates to.

These were indeed inspired by Karin at ManicDDaily who was herself inspired by Luke at Word Salad: The Poetry of Luke Prater who has a great article on micro-fiction six-word stories. I was familiar with the six-word memoir project and wrote one a couple of years ago: Life, my ancestor-in-training course. Luke put his in the above format to be more like poems. It's fun, try it out.

  1. Gotta love this poem. I've heard that some women have the best sex of their lives in the 60's.

  5. I had seen Karin's also! You wrote some nice ones. I like the one about 66. And I say, "Good for her." Smiles. And for 'Decades married,' I say also good for her...

  6. Like haiku - the brief form here captures character in a flash! And without the restriction of nature reference and the cutting change. I loved them all. Very deft work indeed! Thanks for the comments on my blog.

    Remarkable.

  8. These are very fun. Great job. It is nice to have them broken up as poems as the enjambment/line breaks I think give a kind of rhythm, or sense of surprise.

I have been quite busy, and will be for a bit, so they are a fun thing to think about. I am not sure that a ten and under challenge might not be as good! Certainly a bit easier. You did a really great job though. I especially like the last three. Thanks. k.

    1. Thanks, K. They're trickier than it seems at first but I found Luke's info helpful.

  9. I've joined a Facebook meme of six word stories. I agree it's tricky. It's a great way to whittle down to the essence, isn't it? I especially like:

    Left
    behind, her
    too little self.

In light of our current conversation at washed stones, this leapt out. :)

    1. Seeking the essence is a worthy pursuit. I'm sitting in my living room in the sun with a cup of tea and reading this. It tickles me somehow that we're having conversation across these miles. Thanks.

  10. Love all your 6 word stories. I'm a bit intimidated by them and have yet to try any. Perhaps Luke will do an article on FormForAll regarding them. Happy Birthday to your daughter. You gave us a lovely mom's portrait of her. Thanks.
