The Gathering
For ten years we've met,
the young women of our family
with two crones.
We've committed to each other,
grown closer, become friends,
as have our children,
three generations set the compass for change
in our lives, doing now
what will benefit seven generations hence
and relishing the journey,
our lives spiraled into new constellations.
The women in the photo above (my daughter and nieces together with my sister-in-law and me) just celebrated one decade of gathering together each year, spouses and children welcome, but with time set aside just for us to gather in a circle and re-connect. I wrote about it previously here and here. This year the next generation decided to take over the organizing of the gathering and expand it. They have some wonderful ideas. One decade has ended. The next has begun.
Offered for the G-Man's Friday Flash 55.

That is amazing! And beautiful! What a lovely thing to make time for the people who enrich our lives. So often, we forget to make the time until there's no more time left.
ReplyDeleteMaking time for this has enriched my life immeasurably.
DeleteWhat a great looking bunch of beautiful women!
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like a close Family
You are fortunate, AND you know it
Loved your Family 55
Thanks for playing, thanks for sharing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Thanks! I'll tell them you said so. Closeness can be fostered and yes, I'm fortunate.
DeleteHow wonderful that you have been doing this for ten years now. All the best fir the coming decade!
ReplyDeleteI'll write about how it goes.
DeleteYou are so lucky to have that. My family tree is too vertical. I watched so many of my elders die, and found myself left with only six, including my husband and children.
ReplyDeleteI'm rich in family and consider myself lucky indeed.
DeleteWhat an example this is for the rest of the family! A beautiful picture, a moving 55!
ReplyDeleteI love that my daughter and nieces are thinking of ways to expand it to more of the family.
DeleteWhat a wonderful family! It takes real commitment for everyone to get together regularly and keep in touch. Your family is fortunate that way.
ReplyDeleteFrom all over the country and two from outside the US everyone made it a priority to come. I admire them for that commitment.
Deletesmiles..it is really cool this coming together...and its great too that it crosses generations...we need each other like that....a very cool tradition...
ReplyDeleteWe started with just two of the third generation and now have nine. Friendships in three generations is such a good thing.
DeleteI absolutely love that you do this. What a great tradition. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteMe too. We plan to continue.
DeleteWhat a great picture and wonderful tradition. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, DJan, we have such a great and fun time together!
DeleteThat really is a rich and heart-warming tradition. And it's wonderful that the younger ones are taking ownership and thinking about ways too expand it.
ReplyDeleteIt was an unexpected but fabulous outcome of this last gathering. My daughter and nieces are amazing women!
DeleteThis is a truly worthy effort to stay connected and mark the years together like this. Brava to all of you!
ReplyDeleteThe smiles say it all … and the fact the next generation is enthusiastically planning for next year! You are very lucky.
