All That Remains

My grandson returned to his home in Trinidad today. He left the house too quiet, the space where he dropped his flip- flops when he came into the house too empty and two souvenir foot prints that I'm now reluctant to clean up.

Oh, and lots of pizza boxes to recycle. That boy scarfed down pizza on every possible occasion in the month he visited!

I'm feeling melancholy already but so grateful for this wonderful opportunity to know and love him more in all his boy exuberance.
Grow well and prosper, sweet prince!

  1. He'll remember all the things he did; all the things you showed him; all the ways Italy is.
I'm always amazed at the difference between my children's memories and mine.
Hope you have many more decades of these times together.

My grandchild and her friend also left me this week after spending a few weeks with us. The time went fast; all my plans to see this or that, to make this or that together, were changed and modified, and we experienced life through young people's eyes! This is the gift they gave us.

    Truly priceless!

    1. Yes, my plans got modified as well. His priorities were food, friends, water of any sort- the sea, the pool, the water park- and high speed internet connection which he doesn't have in his village. We got in a castle, a festa and some sight seeing but not all I had planned. His experience was really the Italy of the young. Makes sense.

  2. Oh how you must miss your sweet prince; I am sure you and he had scads of adventures fueled by that pizza. I think I might paint in those 2 precious footprints, to keep them, really :)

  3. I say goodbye to my granddaughters tomorrow. The house will be tidy but very, very quiet.

  4. Oh, I love the sweetness and sadness of this post. It pierces my heart, and reminds me that Augie starts full-day kindergarten in September. Now I finally understand why my Mom cried when I started school.

    1. Each pizza place has their own box design. There's one with a Sofia Loren's face that's ver cool. I did feel sad when he left- it was a fun month.
